Why Should I Check My Chakra Functioning Regularly?

Our chakras are our emotional guidance system. They can provide us with an early message we can respond to, so the message doesn’t have to progress (get louder) through physical pain, dis-comfort, dis-order or dis-ease in order to get us to give it attention.

Sounds like an early warning or early detection system.

Seems like a good prevention option to me!

Perhaps it is time to learn about your chakras!

Caroline Myss describes the power of the chakras as follows:

“…each chakra represents a spiritual life lesson or challenge common to all human beings.”

“…we have not only the script for the development of our consciousness but a spiritual language of healing, as well as a symbolic life map of the inevitable challenges in our healing process.”

Chakras are swirling vortices of energy that, when healthy, move strongly in a clockwise direction.

(Is this different in the southern hemisphere? Please let me know if you test or treat chakras in the southern hemisphere.)

They are located along a straight line, from the base of your spine to the top of your head.

Here are the locations for testing:

1. Root or Base Chakra -base of spine/coccyx

2. Sacral Chakra – between genitals and navel

3. Solar Plexus – between navel and sternum

4. Heart Chakra – chest

5. Throat Chakra – neck/throat

6. Third Eye or Brow Chakra – forehead

7. Crown Chakra – top of head

(According to Barbara Ann Brennan each chakra is actually a pair, one on the front of the body and one on the back. And I recently read a book by Doreen Virtue that includes another pair at the ears; for a total of eight chakras.)

The first, or bottom three, are our connection to the physical and the external.

The top three are our connection to the spiritual and the internal.

And our fourth chakra (the heart chakra) connects the physical with the spiritual.

From 1-7, (bottom to top) is the ascending order: our encoded process of evolving.

Testing the Functioning of Your Chakras/Emotional Centers

To test the functioning of your chakras/emotional centers, get any pendulum, weighted object on a string or chain, or necklace with a pendant. Hold the pendulum over any one of the chakra sites while lying down, an inch or two above your body, and the pendulum will soon begin to move.

If the pendulum moves in a clockwise circle, the chakra energy is flowing freely and strongly. (The bigger the circle, the stronger the flow.) If the pendulum moves in a clockwise ellipse, the energy is being diverted or is weak. If the pendulum moves in a counter-clockwise circle or barely moves, this chakra is blocked. (These are just the basics.)

(If you are doing this test on yourself, be conscious of how the directional flow of the pendulum would look from above you.)

To save you time with your interpretation, it is helpful to know that one blocked or weak chakra can affect the ones above and below it. So if you don’t have clockwise motion for three in a row, consult the message from the middle one first.

In order to assess the wellness of your chakras you may also perform energy testing: also called muscle testing or kinesiological testing. (If you are interested, please look into it until I post a how-to.)

Healing/Restoring Proper Functioning

There are many talented, intuitive professionals that should be sought out in cases of long-standing, multiple, and severe blocks. Reiki, energy healing, network chiropractic, Rolfing, acupuncture and bodywork are among the services you can seek. Since talk therapy and EFT/tapping can remove the emotional blocks, they are also effective choices.

Healing techniques that increase flow of chi (qi or prana) throughout the energy system, including acupressure, reflexology, energy psychology, and hands-on–healing can be performed by professionals, but you can also do them for yourself.

Self-Healing with Hands-On-Healing:

  1. Rub hands together vigorously to stimulate energy flow.
  2. Ask your Source: “Make my hands heavy with light and love.”
  3. Hold hands on or above chakra.
  4. Close your eyes.
  5. If you can visualize, imagine white light flowing into the top of your head, down your arms and into and through your hands and swirling into the body; recharging the chakra. You can visualize it swirling. You can visualize the associated colored light.
If you can’t visualize, as I can’t, use your breathing and (closed) eye movements to move and direct the energy.
  6. Retest and repeat as needed. Look for the message and heal the source.

There are other methods of self-healing that you can also try. These methods include:

– Sound Healing: vibrationally synchronized (resonating frequency) with each chakra by audio or mantras
– Color Healing:  with visualizations or crystals
– Colored-Light Healing
– Aromatherapy
– Specific Body Movements Designed To Open Each Chakra
Keep in mind that these methods may only work temporarily if there is an emotional issue creating the blockage.

In addition to the books mentioned already, Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self  by Anodea Judith, has long been one of my standard reference books for weak or blocked chakra interpretations.

Energy Medicine by Donna Eden is a great resource for learning about your energy body and for meridian and polarity work.

If you have chronic physical pain and can identify chronic emotional issues that relate to the chakra associated with that area of pain, please consider that healing emotional issues will heal the pain.

May you perceive and receive all of your blessings.

With Much Love,

Rev. Michele <3

P.S. Chakra testing and healing can be a great relationship ‘exercise’ and/or a family time ‘exercise’ to learn about self-healing through learning about the chakras. [I sure wish I had known about this growing up!]
